Role PurposeThe processing and scrutiny of Building Regulation applications.Inspection of building works

ResponsibilitiesTo demonstrate a commitment to the Council’s Equal Opportunities Policy and the ability to understand and implement the policy in relation to the job responsibilitiesTo ensure compliance with your responsibilities as laid out in the council’s health and safety policy and take an active role in promoting a positive health and safety culture.To promote and participate in the council’s individual performance appraisal and development initiatives and information management best practice.To ensure compliance with the council’s information security policies and maintain confidentiality.In accordance with the Immigration Act 2016, where the role is customer-facing and the post holder is required to speak to members of the public, the ability to converse at ease with customers and provide advice in accurate spoken English is essential for the postDealing with general enquiries on all building control and related matters.To assist in maintaining the sections Quality Assurance/Quality Management accreditation.To assess and instigate appropriate and necessary actions in respect of dangerous structures referred to Building Control which may include out of hours work. Ensuring compliance with the relevant legislation. Liaising with other departments, bodies and dangerous structures Framework contractors where required.To actively promote and market the service and that of LABC Services to public and clients through everyday duties.Assisting the Senior Building Surveyor in the general training of Trainee Building Surveyors and Apprentice.To complete any mandatory qualifications relating to the role including obtaining relevant licences and certification in order to practise within the industry to Band A (or equivalent).

RequirementsEducated to degree level or equivalent or has the equivalent relevant work experience.An understanding of the Council''s Equal Opportunity policy in relation to employment, and an awareness of the implications of that policy for this job.A detailed working knowledge of current Building Control practice procedures and legislation.A detailed working knowledge of more complex construction techniques.Ability to organise workload, to establish priorities for action, and to delegate duties in order to carry out the necessary work within statutory deadlines.Ability to prepare accurate and detailed reports on site inspectionsAbility to negotiate with applicants and developers in order to achieve compliance with statutory requirementsClass 2a minimum requirement
