Job Title: Sheet Metal Workshop Manager

Job Summary

The Sheet Metal Workshop Manager is responsible for overseeing daily operations within the sheet metal fabrication workshop. This role ensures efficient production, high-quality output, safe working practices, and effective team management. The manager coordinates workflow, supervises staff, maintains equipment, and ensures projects are delivered on time and within budget.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage day-to-day workshop operations, including fabrication, assembly, and finishing processes
• Plan and schedule production to meet customer deadlines and operational targets
• Supervise, train, and support workshop staff, including fabricators, welders, and machine operators
• Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations and company policies
• Monitor quality standards and implement continuous improvement initiatives
• Coordinate with engineering, sales, and procurement teams to ensure smooth project execution
• Oversee material usage, stock levels, and ordering requirements
• Maintain workshop equipment and arrange servicing or repairs as needed
• Track productivity and performance metrics, identifying areas for improvement
• Resolve technical and operational issues within the workshop
• Conduct performance reviews and manage staff development

Required Skills & Qualifications

• Proven experience in sheet metal fabrication or manufacturing environment
• Previous supervisory or management experience
• Strong knowledge of fabrication techniques (cutting, bending, welding, forming)
• Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications
• Excellent leadership and team management skills
• Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities
• Good organizational and time management skills
• Familiarity with workshop machinery (press brakes, guillotines, laser cutters, etc.)
• Knowledge of health and safety regulations in a manufacturing environment
• Proficiency in basic computer applications (production planning, spreadsheets, etc.)

Preferred Qualifications

• Relevant technical certification or apprenticeship in sheet metal fabrication
• Experience with lean manufacturing or continuous improvement methods
• First aid or health & safety certification
• Experience with ERP or production planning software

Working Conditions

• Workshop-based role with regular exposure to machinery and noise
• Requires use of personal protective equipment (PPE)
• May involve occasional overtime to meet production deadlines
