OverviewPrincipal Design Engineer (Mechanical) – Location: Birmingham | Hybrid working available

We are seeking a Principal Design Engineer (Mechanical) to play a key role in delivering innovative water and wastewater solutions across the UK and Ireland. This is a client-facing position offering the chance to guide projects from concept to completion and support the development of the next generation of engineers.

Responsibilities

Lead and mentor a team of junior engineers across multiple offices.

Drive the mechanical design of water projects, including:

wastewater treatment

clean water treatment

industrial wastewater solutions

biosolids treatment

Oversee design and project management from initial concept through to delivery.

Produce calculations, drawings, specifications, and detailed design reports.

Contribute to HAZID/HAZOP and LOPA studies.

Lead energy efficiency initiatives and balance-of-plant design.

About You

Degree (BEng/MEng) in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related discipline.

7+ years of relevant post-graduate design experience.

Chartered Engineer (CEng) status with a relevant professional institution.

Proven background in the water industry.

Strong IT skills, particularly Microsoft Office.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Full clean driving licence and own transport.
