Position: Mechanical Site / Project Manager
Location: Bedford
Salary: £50,000–£65,000 + £4,000 car allowance
Employment Type: Full-time, Permanent

A well-established mechanical building services contractor based in Bedford is seeking either a Mechanical Project Manager or a Mechanical Site Manager / Supervisor looking to step up into a Project Management role.

This is an excellent opportunity to join a growing team delivering refurbishment and small-to-medium projects (£10k–£500k) across commercial, healthcare, education, and industrial sectors. Full support will be provided to help the right individual transition into a Project Manager position.

The Role

The successful candidate will take responsibility for managing (or developing into managing) mechanical projects from inception through to completion, ensuring they are delivered safely, on time, and within budget.

Key responsibilities include:

• Managing or supporting the delivery of mechanical projects
• Coordinating site teams, direct labour, and subcontractors
• Working closely with the Mechanical Manager to plan workloads
• Procuring materials and ensuring cost-effective purchasing
• Attending site visits and client meetings
• Ensuring compliance with health & safety and quality standards
• Interpreting drawings and specifications
• Assisting with variations, reporting, and commercial aspects
• Supporting successful project handovers

Experience & Skills

• Background in mechanical building services
  (e.g. Site Manager, Supervisor, or Project Manager)
• Knowledge of HVAC, LTHW/CHW systems, ventilation, and plantrooms
• Strong organisational and communication skills
• Keen to progress or further develop within a Project Management role
• Ability to manage workload and problem-solve effectively
• Some commercial awareness (preferred but not essential)

Preferred Qualifications

• SMSTS or SSSTS
• CSCS Card
• IOSH / NEBOSH
• HNC/HND in Mechanical or Building Services Engineering

Additional Requirements

• Full UK driving licence
• Willingness to undergo an enhanced DBS check
