Band 8a Specialist Surgical Pharmacist

An exciting opportunity has been developed within our surgical pharmacy team to lead the provision of a clinical pharmacy service to surgical pre-assessment, Day Surgery Unit and in-patient surgical wardsProvide advice on the use of medicines in the perioperative periodAssist with medicines reconciliation within the surgical pre-assessment clinicThe postholder will also be an integral member of the surgical pharmacy team, providing a clinical pharmacy service to a surgical ward, contributing to treatment protocols and guidelines and training and education of staff.Potential candidates will have a background in clinical pharmacy with some experience surgery. They will ideally have an independent prescribing qualification (or working towards) and have some experience of working in clinics and/or managing own caseload. They will be confident working with a multidisciplinary team and be able to build a good rapport with patients attending the surgical pre-assessment clinic. They will have well-developed interpersonal skills and an ability to deliver against key targets and objectives.Main duties of the job
Act as a deputy for Principal Pharmacist when necessaryRegular active participation in speciality ward rounds to support safe and effective use of medicines with these areasParticipation in pre-operative assessment clinics, taking an accurate medication history and providing advice on the use of medicines in the perioperative period.Contributing to evidence based prescribing guidelinesEffective control of drug expenditureEducation and training of HCP''s within the specialist areaTo act as a clinical role model, and support training and supervision of junior members of the pharmacy teamDevelopment and implementation of clinical guidelinesEffective control of drug expenditure and management of processes regarding high-cost drugsTo participate in audits and practice researchTo work with the clinical risk team to minimise the risk of medicinesAbout us
