Mechanical Design Engineer
This amazing long term contract Mechanical Design Engineer contract with a leading Formula One organisation in Northamptonshire, is to support a range of high-performance, advanced technology programmes.

The Role As a Mechanical Design Engineer, you will support the design and development of mechanical components and systems, contributing across the full product lifecycle — from concept through to validation and release.
You’ll work closely with cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality, right-first-time engineering solutions across a variety of technically demanding projects.
Key Responsibilities
Design and develop mechanical components and assemblies across motorsport and advanced automotive programmes
Support engineering activities from clean sheet concept through to end-of-life
Produce detailed designs for complex, highly loaded components
Apply engineering fundamentals and hand calculations to support design decisions
Ensure designs consider:
Material selection
Manufacturability & assembly
Heat treatment and surface finish requirements
GD&T and control of critical features
Work collaboratively with internal teams and external suppliers
Support testing activities:
Writing test requests
Reviewing results
Producing technical reports
Assist with failure investigation and problem-solving activities
Contribute to continuous improvement and engineering best practice
Skills & Experience
Experience in a mechanical design engineering role within a technically challenging environment
Proficient in 3D CAD software (Siemens NX desirable)
Exposure to engineering simulation/analysis tools (mechanical, thermal, or fluid systems advantageous)
Understanding of engineering first principles and mechanical design fundamentals
Experience or interest in hybrid/electric vehicle systems, including:
Mechanical component design
Electrical packaging considerations
Knowledge in areas such as electric machines, inverters or battery systems would be beneficial
Qualifications
Degree in Mechanical Engineering (2:1 or above preferred)
