OverviewWe are very pleased to invite applications for a Senior Clinical Fellow (SpR equivalent) in trauma and orthopaedic surgery at the Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust. The post will be based either at the Royal Free Hospital or Barnet General Hospital. Elective clinics and trauma will be predominantly at the Royal Free Hospital site and Barnet General Hospital. Elective operating will be carried out predominantly at Chase Farm Hospital and some elective clinics at this site as well.

The post is suitable for a person who wishes to improve their trauma and orthopaedic knowledge and skills, participate in teaching (undergraduate and postgraduate), and develop their research interests. This post will be under the supervision of a named consultant, who will act as the educational supervisor. The successful candidate will become part of the department, which has 24 consultant trauma and orthopaedic surgeons based across the Trust.

The post is for a period of six months in the first instance and is renewable with agreement. The posts shall be for 6 months with the possibility of renewing subject to staffing at the time. The roles will cover all aspects of clinical work, teaching, research, education and managerial responsibilities, including a clear schedule of commitments. It shall also include personal objectives. Responsibilities

Undertake elective clinics and one to two whole day operating lists per week according to demand, with operating lists under consultant supervision.

Maintain the highest clinical standards in the practice of orthopaedic surgery and undertake any reasonable clinical responsibility related to orthopaedic surgery.

Take part in an on-call rota including non-resident cover at night.

Be actively involved in the day-to-day running of the department and take an active role in departmental and academic responsibilities as allocated.

Engage fully in clinical governance activities, including clinical audit.

Engage in continuing professional development.

Agree a formal job plan with the Clinical Director prior to commencement.

Contribute to teaching and research output of the department and participate in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching.

Contribute to the overall management and administration of the department as required.

Qualifications and Requirements

Suitable for a person who is a Senior Registrar equivalent seeking to advance trauma and orthopaedic knowledge and skills.

Interest in developing teaching and research in orthopaedic surgery.

Willingness to participate in departmental and academic activities as allocated by agreement.
