Join Amentum as a Principal / Technical Director Engineering Geologists and Geotechnical Engineers in the UK, working on a range of geotechnical projects across Defence, Nuclear Power, Environment and Government-Owned Critical Infrastructure. Roles are UK-wide with hybrid working; Bristol is the preferred base office, with other offices (e.g., Oxford, Reading, London, Glasgow) considered.Responsibilities
Support Amentum’s worldwide $14B forward-looking workload by growing Ground Engineering capabilities in the UK and delivering geotechnical assessment, analysis, design and construction supervision for existing and future projects.Lead preliminary source, feasibility, value engineering, innovation and sustainability studies.Conduct land and overwater ground investigations including advanced in situ and laboratory testing and data management.Characterise ground, parameterise and model soil and rock; perform numerical and finite element analyses of geotechnical problems (including seismic/dynamic analysis).Design geotechnical solutions for innovative and sustainable structures, including foundations, retaining structures, basements, earthworks, ground improvement, ground anchors, soil nails, rock bolts, SSI/SSSI and other related considerations.Prepare construction specifications and provide technical construction assurance.Provide guidance, support and supervision to team members, fostering professional growth and ensuring high-quality deliverables.Assist in bid preparation to meet requirements and produce compelling, competitive proposals.Manage stakeholders and maintain effective communication with clients and partners.Develop and lead team members, mentor junior staff, and pursue business development opportunities where appropriate.What you’ll need
Experience and competence in geotechnical engineering with emphasis on engineering geology, soil mechanics, rock mechanics and technical leadership appropriate to your level.Knowledge of British geotechnical standards and codes of practice (e.g., BS EN 1997, BS 5930, BS 6031, BS 8081; familiarity with BS EN 1998, ASCE seismic publications, IAEA Nuclear Safety Standards and ASTM guides is beneficial).Geotechnical desk studies, field mapping and geomorphological assessment; ground investigation design, supervision, assessment and data management.2D/3D ground modelling and characterisation; routine to complex design in soil/rock, SSI and seismic contexts.Proficiency with software such as OpenGround, Leapfrog, GEO5 Suite, RocScience, WellCAD, AutoCAD, ArcGIS, MathCAD (beneficial).Degree in Engineering Geology, Geotechnical Engineering, Civil Engineering or equivalent; Chartered status (e.g., CGeol, CEng) or equivalent experience.Benefits
