BBC Media Operations is at the heart of teams delivering content across platforms for all audiences. With around nine hundred people, it manages craft and production operations for BBC’s news, radio, and sport services across London, Salford, and Birmingham, capturing, editing and producing output 24x7 for TV, radio, and online. The team is composed of professionals with strong technical, operational and production creativity.The Media Operations Sound team covers a diverse range of events including Glastonbury, golf, The Proms, comedy, opera, tennis, and concerts, as well as large studio output for national radio networks and BBC Sounds. We also manage events in the BBC Radio Theatre and operate specialist music studios at Maida Vale.Why join the team
We are looking for an Assistant Technical Producer to join the Speech team in London. The role requires extensive craft audio experience, work on live and recorded speech-based content, and responsibility for sound design on multiple longform strands, plus any visualisation requirements. A strong background in speech-based content, well-developed sound engineering skills, and awareness of recent technological developments are essential.Your Key Responsibilities And Impact
Operate and balance live radio shows confidently, solo or as part of a team, across studio and outside broadcast environments.Apply audio craft skills to assemble and edit content using current production tools, offering creative and technical guidance.Set up and manage equipment for studio and OBs, ensuring safe and effective use, including rigging, testing, and communications setup.Collaborate with contributors and production teams to meet technical needs, advise on sound balance, and support planning and logistics.Contribute to innovation and planning, helping improve workflows and ensuring productions are delivered on time and within budget.Essential Criteria
Your Skills And Experience
Experience of working under pressure in a live studio environment, with the ability to balance and control audio content.Well-developed critical listening skills from craft audio sound design projects using digital editing software.High degree of technical literacy; comfortable with standard PC software and bespoke tools to share ideas and manipulate audio content.Demonstrated enthusiastic interest in the professional media field and ability to keep pace with new developments.Examples of good communication skills and experience managing relationships within a team and with external partners, plus planning and organising skills, with personal drive to achieve goals—even when working independently.If you can bring these skills and transferable strengths, we’d love to hear from you and encourage you to apply.Before your start date, you may need to disclose any unspent convictions or police charges in line with our Contracts of Employment policy.
