Head of Science – Secondary School (KS3 & KS4)
Location: Chatham, Medway
Contract: Full-Time, Long-Term Supply to Permanent

Pay: Competitive (TLR available) – Based on experience and leadership scale
Start Date: ASAP – Ongoing until July 2026, with a view to becoming permanent

This is an exciting opportunity to lead a vibrant Science Department, inspire both students and colleagues, and play a pivotal role in driving academic success and innovation in teaching and learning across biology, chemistry, and physics.

Key Responsibilities:

• Provide strategic leadership of the Science Department across KS3 and KS4.
• Line manage and support a team of dedicated Science teachers and technicians.
• Ensure high standards of teaching, curriculum planning, and assessment in all Science subjects.
• Lead on departmental CPD and contribute to whole-school improvement initiatives.
• Deliver high-quality Science lessons and act as a role model for best teaching practices.
• Monitor and analyse student performance data to ensure continuous improvement.
• Foster a positive, collaborative, and inclusive departmental culture.

What We’re Looking For:

• Qualified Teacher Status (QTS/QTLS) or equivalent.
• Proven experience teaching Science at Key Stages 3 and 4.
• Prior middle leadership experience (e.g., Head of Year, Subject Lead) or current Head of Department.
• A passion for curriculum development and raising attainment in Science.
• Excellent communication, team leadership, and interpersonal skills.
• A strategic thinker with the ability to drive positive change.
• Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one).
• Two professional references covering the last two years.
